A short word about weather cancellations.

As the director, one of my roles is determining our weather cancellations. Each day, at 3:30, I check Environment Canada weather radar for conditions that will occur at the park specifically. I make note of approaching weather and will advise the coaches if a cancellation is warranted. This year we have had excellent weather, so the system has not really been tested.

The city, after prolonged torrential rain may suspend our permits to play. This usually occurs early in the day.

At 5:30 a field assessment is done. There is a set of rules given us by the city which we must follow to determine if it is safe to play. If unsafe, the convenor for the day will advise the coaches and remain at the site to enforce this call.

For heat conditions, stand down is a humidex of 40, with an direct sun factor of plus 10 degrees. This is the usual stand down for strenuous sports like soccer and football. Baseball is not really a strenuous sport, we exercise caution in any case.

These leagues are supposed to be family fun time. It could be that the conditions on any given night are not "fun" for you and your family. Your player may have a specific medical condition that warrants further caution, these are your calls to make as a a parent. Please allow other parents to make their decision.

Not everyone has, a smart phone, a car, air conditioning, facebook or is residing with the contact parent. We must make sure that none of these things are necessary to play ball at Gage Park.

Players from all teams attended last night, they had a great, fun game, in ideal conditions. Thanks to all who attended and the volunteers and coaches who were on site to support the evening.
